My Healthy Journey for Better Living

Officially, it is 5 minutes after midnight on Monday, April 28, 2014. Unofficially, I am starting my new journey for a more healthy lifestyle. I have ceased smoking for 7.5 months, and I have not gained any additional weight (thankfully). Health wise I am a type 2 diabetic taking 1500mg of metformin per day, I am on thyroid medicine, and I have a really messed up back. Actually, the fact that I am even able to walk or exercise in general is a miracle. I have faith in God that if I do my part, he will do his, and I will be completely rid of any health ailments or physical limitations.

This blog is mostly for myself to hold myself accountable, for a journal, and to share my experiences. My plan of attack is to go vegan & gluten free for my diet, to walk as my cardio, and to start with a stability ball for my strength training because currently I am on weight restrictions due to my back.

My goal is to go from 225 pounds to a healthier 175. I am 5'9", 40 year old female, with minor thoracic scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, I have had 2 spinal fusions (cervical and lumbar), 3 vertebral hemangiomas (benign spinal tumors), and 4 herniated discs.

I want to drop from a size 18/20 to a size 10/12, get off pain medication, muscle relaxers, and most importantly off the diabetes medications! I am setting a time frame of 6 months to do this in, starting today! I am only starting the exercise portion today, and will incorporate the diet portion on May 5, 2014.

Of course, I will be adding before, during and after photos. This is to help me, but to also show anyone who has limitations that it IS possible!

Here is to the start of the first day of the rest of my life!
